It is slowly turning into a nightmare

Just what the title says. Why did we not just go with a local private builder? Why? Why? We had a walkthrough with ss which is a pre pci walk through to pick up any issues and problems and there are many. It took all day and ss did not have time to do the outside walk through with us so that remains undone and has just informed us that he does not have time right now to finish it off. That's basically how we have been treated by this company from the start. We are over our contract time even including the extensions that they asked for but ss is now claiming other extensions to our time that we would have thought we should have been notified of in writing not just over the phone in response to us asking the question. So who knows when we will be finished at this point, probably still at least another two months away and with no compensation for it. We have watched house after house go up around us and finish and it is really becoming heartbreaking. We are talking of selling and just losing the money on this house.

I wish I could say it was going to have a happy ending building with M but I can't see it turning around.

  1. Tash I didnt realise that things had turned pear shaped. Have a look at your contract. Mine is an HIA contract and says that extensions of time must be in writing within 10 days of the delay. If they have not done this then I would be making them compensate you. Have you spoken to management regarding not having time to finish the house.

    1. Hi Jennifer it seems that once we added up ALL of the extensions they are just going to make it. Thankyou for the advice.

  2. I have just sat here tonight & read all of your blog posts. Loving it by the way. I didn't know who your builder was but half way through was starting to guess. I was right. We are just about to embark on a build too & M was the first builder we spoke to. After our second meeting my husband & I decided they were not for us. So many hidden costs which they weren't forthcoming about & practically everything was an upgrade. We found another building company that also starts with M which have been fantastic.

I really hope all of your issues get sorted out soon & you get to move into your beautiful looking house. Thanks for the tip on the pendant lights. I will be showing them to my hubby & hopefully purchasing them.

    1. Hi Michele, so far they seem to have pulled it off, this building business is a crazy roller coaster ride of emotions and one minute you hate your builder and the next your praising what a great job they are doing. All the best for your upcoming build. Pics of pendants are up too.

  3. Hey Tash, I am sure it'll all fall in place eventually and you will turn back and marvel at the ups and downs you went through. Once you move in, it'll all be so worth it and you'll love living in the house and decorating it for years to come. These nasties will hopefully be forgotten.

  4. I am so sad to read the despair in this post Tash. Weather building with a highly experienced sole builder or with a volume building company, the last few weeks are always the most painful and frustrating. I hope you have the strength to follow it through as I'm positive you will forget these hurdles once in and decorating your new home. Good luck with concluding the project, x KL

    1. Hi K, yes you are so right and I think this post really just reflects just what you have written, the last few weeks are really the hardest stage of building to get through but we are through it and in the years to come what is most important is that it feels like home to us with all it's little quirky bits thrown in. Thanks for your grounding words.

  5. Hi Tash,
I have just spent the night reading through your blog and your H1 posts :) not stalking you, lol but i just love your style and it's nice to see this style with a project builder. I am building with MJH and i have chosen similar stuff as you. I love your floors boards, i think mine will be darker and now i'm fretting they will be too dark :0 oh well, i also love the paneling on the sides of your island bench. i asked if we could have that to match our shaker cabinetry but was told "no" :( i really wish i changed our facade to all weatherboard but couldn't afford it :( so we are getting it rendered after handover. love your colour choices!!! your home really is stunning and if my little build looks anything like yours i'll be very happy :)
good luck with the rest to come and i hope 'M' get their act together for you soon!

    1. Hi Joh, I don't fret about the floorboards, I love mine now but I just have this strange need to hate everything on sight when it has first gone into the house haha. Yeah I don't know how we got away with our end panels as it was so hard to explain even with pics. Thankyou for all your lovely compliments we really put so much thought into everything we picked. All the best with your build and I'm sure it will be lovely.
